When searching for a hotel in Tampa, there are three areas within Tampa to consider: Northwest Tampa Hotels near Raymond James Stadium and Tampa International Airport (TPA), Downtown Tampa Hotels near Amalie Arena or the Channel District and Ybor City Hotels near Centro Ybor’s historical district or East Ybor near MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre.
Hotels Near Raymond James Stadium – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers play at Raymond James Stadium which is in close proximity to the Tampa International Airport (TPA). If you are only coming in for a day or two for the football game, I recommend getting a hotel near the Tampa airport and not even bothering with a rental car. There are a number of hotels south of the airport (Westshore) that offer an area shuttle that will not only pick you up at the airport but may also drop you off and pick you up from the Bucs game. A nice hotel near Tampa Airport can be gotten for $100 to $120 per night during football season or even less if you’re not picky.
Hotels Near Amalie Arena – Tampa Bay Lightning
The Tampa Bay Lightning play at Amalie Arena in Downtown Tampa. As the NHL hockey season progresses, the prices for a Downtown Tampa Hotel will steadily increase being most expensive (50% to 150% more) during peak season from mid-January to mid-March. Hotel prices begin to steadily decrease after that. I recommend getting a hotel a little uptown (1 mile north of Amalie Arena) near the museums and Riverwalk where there’s a lot more things to do and closer to the best bars and restaurants. If you’re looking for value, check out the Floridian Palace or The Barrymore. Prices for Downtown Tampa hotels start at about $120 during early and late hockey season and then go up from there. I also recommend pricing hotels in Ybor City since you can easily grab the TECO Trolley to and from the Tampa Bay Lightning game at Amalie Arena.
Hotels Near MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre
An Ybor City hotel is perfect if plan on going to a concert since it is easily accessible to both the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre and Amalie Arena. If you plan on attending a concert or Tampa Bay Lightning game at Amalie Arena, check out the hotels in historical Centro Ybor. Centro Ybor hotels are slightly cheaper than hotels in Downtown Tampa and you can easily grab the TECO Trolley to and from Amalie Arena. Plus there are tons of cool bars and restaurants in Ybor.
If you plan on attending a concert at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre, you can stay in Centro Ybor or search for hotels slightly east on I-4. I stayed at nice Quality Inn & Suites for $70 which was only a 5 to 10 minute drive to either MidFlorida Amphitheatre or Centro Ybor. I actually just left my car parked at the hotel and used Uber.
